How is my private information like my gender, region, email address, etc. protected?

WageIndicator handles your personal information with the utmost care. The Salary Calculator does require some of your personal data for improving accuracy; however, this information is only retained in WageIndicator's database. It is not shared with advertisers or other third parties. Up until May 2018, data supplied by our visitors such as email addresses, gender, region, promotional details, and so on, was stored with a unique key. However, WageIndicator no longer collects email addresses, phone numbers, or related personal information from users.

How does WageIndicator compile statistics and trends related to salary?

WageIndicator collects, compiles, and analyses salary data received through users. One of our methods of data collection is the Salary Calculator, which is a voluntary web-based survey. This is a multiple-choice questionnaire offered across 47 languages, and it is accessible in 140 countries. WageIndicator users fill out the survey voluntarily, and the data thus collected is analysed and compiled to give you the most accurate and up-to-date statistics and trends possible.

How can I use the Salary Calculator to advance my career?

WageIndicator’s Salary Calculator allows users to compare their salaries with others in their field, as well as with the average salary for that field. This is a helpful tool for most professionals, as salary comparisons can help advance their career in a multitude of ways. The Salary Calculator provides for multiple parameters through which professionals from various stages in their careers can get accurate estimates regarding their salaries. Having this knowledge will also help new professionals navigate salary negotiations, as well as manage their own and others’ expectations regarding new jobs. It also helps employers to provide appropriate wages to their employees. The Salary Calculator can be an important tool for those looking to advance their careers.

What criteria does the Salary Calculator use to calculate an average salary?

The Salary Calculator makes use of several criteria to calculate average salary for fields of work. This consideration allows it to publish data that is as accurate as possible. Some of these criteria include:

Educational qualifications - Professionals with greater educational qualifications tend to be paid higher salaries. Therefore, it is important to factor in educational qualifications while calculating the pay for an occupation.

Work experience - Years of work experience plays an important role in determining an individual’s salary; higher work experience generally equals higher pay.

Gender - Remuneration is influenced by an individual's gender. Unfortunately, even today, women get paid less than men for the same work. Thus, it is crucial to include gender when estimating the average income.

Region of work - Salary for the same work varies from region to region. Even within Zambia, there may be a considerable difference in wages for professionals in different regions.

Why are multiple specific subfields under an occupation listed?

Many fields of work are incredibly vast and cover a lot of job profiles. In such a case, many subfields emerge to cater to the varied functions of the field. For instance, the field of Engineering has grown and is no longer confined to physical engineering solutions like repairing engines or working at oil refineries. Engineering now also includes programming,  solving complex contemporary problems, etc. Naturally, if the field grows, differences come up with reference to the salaries paid to employees working in different subfields. Therefore it is not possible to have a standardised approximate salary for everyone within that field. This is why it is important to categorise the different kinds of occupations under a field, and how much they are paid. It contributes to the accuracy of the Salary Calculator results.

Can I opt to keep my data private?

While WageIndicator tries its best not to collect unnecessary data from its users, some features of the Salary Calculator require the user to provide information like gender, region of work, etc. This makes the Salary Check more accurate. User data is not sold to organisations, corporations, government agencies, or any other third parties. It is entirely confidential and stored within WageIndicator servers. However, we understand if you wish to protect your data. Therefore, WageIndicator gives the users of its Salary Calculator the option to remain anonymous, or of the system forgetting the data you entered after a period of time.
