 Who is NAPSA?

With members exceeding 900,000, the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) is Zambia’s biggest pension fund. It was established in the year 2000 after replacing the Zambia National Provident Fund (ZNPF) which had been in existence for 34 years. The authority provides retirement and other social security benefits to the country’s workforce.

What kind of benefits does NAPSA provide?

Invalidity, old age and survivors are the three major benefits provided by the Pension fund. Benefits are paid in form of a monthly Pension, but members who fail to meet the minimum requirements for a Pension are paid a lump sum.

In addition to these benefits, family members of a pensioner are given a Lump Sum funeral grant, which is a one-off payment, upon his/ her death.

Effectiveness

To increase its efficiency, 16 of NAPSA’s 23 stations are now online and the remaining seven are expected to be connected this year. This programme is meant to ensure that its area offices are fully equipped to process claims.

Where can you find NAPSA offices?

NAPSA has 10 area offices and 13 district branches countrywide. The authority has six established payment centres; Solwezi, Livingstone, Kabwe, Kitwe, Ndola and the capital Lusaka.

In what form do I get my Pension?

With NAPSA, members are given a monthly Pension, as opposed to a Lump Sum payment. The benefits are indexed to wage inflation and reflect a preservation of the value of the benefits over time.

What is a Minimum Pension?

This provides for members who contribute small amounts because of low wages. Their Pensions are upgraded to a meaningful Pension figure which is attuned annually within national average earning parameters, as provided by the Central Statistical Office (CSO).

Can I get my Pension at any bank?

No. All of NAPSA’S 2888 pensioners currently on the payroll as at January 10, 2010, receive their monthly payments through the Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) because of its wide network. An agreement between NAPSA and ZANACO also allows members who do not hold accounts with the bank to receive their money.
